What does my child do all day?

School starts at 8.50am. The teachers greet the children in the playground each morning whilst the teaching assistants start the morning in the class. Once your child has arrived and settled, the morning begins with self registration. The day starts with basic skills activities until registration is complete. Doors close at 9.00 when the school day officially begins.

During the day children will work directly with an adult (teacher, teaching assistant or additional adult) on directed activities. They will also have the opportunity to consolidate and explore their learning independently through tasks suggested by the teacher or those they have chosen themselves. The curriculum and balance of pupil led and teacher directed time is carefully planned to maximise every possible learning opportunity.

During the morning, the children will have a snack time. Every class has a snack together as this helps the children feel part of a group and develops their social skills. Playtime is always spent outside (weather permitting!) and we ask that children are dressed appropriately for the weather. Even in summer, weather can change easily and we ask that children always have a coat with them just in case! We also ask you to keep a pair of wellies in school for your child to use when we want to explore the environment. Even in fine weather it can be muddy in parts of the school grounds!

Lunchtime is always a treat for children who enjoy eating and spending time with their friends.

Because we want lunchtime to be a positive experience for everyone, we have two sittings. This is to ensure the hall does not become too cramped, noisy or unmanageable. Some children may be participating in one of our lunchtime clubs.

In the afternoon, children continue their learning with activities that follow on from the morning. On certain days they will be participating in indoor or outdoor PE, visiting the Library and working specifically on their ICT skills. Each day there is an act of collective worship and the children will gather together as a class, year group or school to reflect and explore a range of ideas. The day for most, ends at 3.15, unless they are participating in one of our popular extra curricular clubs…

Magic moments…

Every day in school lots of magic moments are created or experienced by your child. It may be the first time they write a word, try a carrot, the first daffodil they see; in fact anything that creates that sense of awe and wonder. Your child’s most memorable magic moment will be shared with you on your child’s annual Record of Achievement.

...and celebrations

Some of these magic moments must be shared and celebrated. Each week we have a school “Celebration Assembly” for birthdays, Best Work and Gold Book. Gold book celebrates all the achievements that cannot be seen. Effort, kindness and many other attributes are rewarded and parents are invited to participate in this very special celebration. Please refer to our awards booklet for more details regarding celebrations at school.
