Walk Once a Week Scheme - WOW!

Our Walk Once A Week scheme is designed to help lessen the impact of the "school run" on the environment. The idea was originally thought up by Mercury Class in Summer 2009 as part of our SOS environment week. In Autumn 2009, the Environment Club developed the idea into a practical scheme for the school. The scheme was launched on February 1st 2010 as part of a whole school assembly by the Environment Team, with road safety input from our crossing patrol man and Community Governor, Mr Dave Wilson.

The scheme was launched on February 1st 2010 as part of a whole school assembly by the Environment Team, with road safety input from our crossing patrol man and Community Governor, Mr Dave Wilson.

The scheme is very simple:

At the beginning of the academic year, each child is issued with a WOW Passport. They are encouraged to walk to or from school at least once a week and record this in their passport. Each tick in their passport will earn them a foot token. At the end of each half term, the class with the greatest number of Foot Tokens wins the Golden Boot trophy and an extra playtime. Every child who has walked once a week, each week will also receive a special badge which is presented at our celebration assembly.
