North Baddesley Infant School

Happy, valued and growing together

Severe Weather

We review our severe weather arrangements annually and our priority at all times is to ensure that the school site is safe for pupils and staff and that we have enough staff available who can travel to school safely. The majority of our staff do not live locally and will therefore need to make an informed decision about their ability to get to school based on the weather conditions in their area.

Any decision to fully or partially close the school is a last resort. Our decision will be unique to our staffing and site situation and taken to ensure the safety of pupils and staff. Other local schools with more staff may remain open because a greater proportion of their staff live in the area.

We aim to inform parents as soon as staffing availability, weather and site conditions have been assessed and we plan to use our text messaging and email services as our main systems for notification. Parents can also check for information on the Hampshire County Council web site at www3.hants.gov.uk/schoolclosures. Each school closure is listed by school name alphabetically. This list is used for not only closures due to bad weather conditions, but for other reasons such as flood or lack of power. You can also listen to local radio stations such as BBC Radio Solent, Wave 105 and Heart South Coast for updated information.

If we ever need to close the school during the day, we will again aim to inform parents via text message and email but these systems do not always cope with a number of schools trying to access their site at the same time. Therefore we ask parents to keep checking our school website www.northbaddesley-inf.org.uk and Facebook page through the day if you see any snow.
