Behaviour Policy

Our Vision: At North Baddesley Infant School we are committed to valuing and nurturing each child as an individual who will achieve their best and develop an enthusiasm for lifelong learning. Our vision is for the children in our school to grow into responsible, caring and fulfilled adults who actively and positively contribute to the society in which they live. We are committed to raising standards, values and self esteem for all those involved with our school through cultivating a secure, yet exciting environment that is positive, supportive, stimulating and enriching.

In this way, we are happy, valued and achieving together.

Our policy for behaviour supports this by:
  1. Encouraging pupils to value, respect and look after themselves and each other
  2. Helping children accept their responsibilities and respecting their own and others’ rights
  3. Committing to improving outcomes for all pupils and eliminating all forms of discrimination, harassment and bullying
  4. Promoting equality of opportunity, welfare of pupils and good relations across the whole school community
  5. Helping children make the right choices and behave appropriately and respectfully both within and outside the school environment
  6. Using positive rewards and strategies to encourage appropriate behaviour
  7. Providing a consistent procedure and a clear hierarchy of sanctions for dealing with inappropriate behaviour
  8. Providing an appropriate balance between these rewards and sanctions to encourage good behaviour
  9. Recognising that staff have the power to discipline pupils
  10. Working with parents and families to support behaviour
  11. Rejecting the behaviour not the child
  12. Having clear procedures to measure and monitor incidents of behaviour and the effectiveness of the policy
  13. Rewarding children for appropriate social behaviour as well as for academic effort or achievement
  14. Making reasonable adjustments for pupils on the grounds of SEN, religion or disability
  15. Helping the school community understand that there are circumstances in which some pupils may be treated differently to others and why this is so
Our procedure for behaviour:
  • Each class will display a sun, sun/cloud and cloud
  • All children’s name pegs start on the sun each day and move if they break rules. Names will remain in moved position for the day – children do not return to the sun until the beginning of the following day
  • All adults in school are responsible for the implementation of the behaviour policy and will follow the hierarchy of warnings
  • The procedure will be applied consistently by all staff
1 warning Move name to sun/cloud. Child misses 2 minutes of Golden Time. Child’s name remains on cloud.
2 warnings Move name to cloud. Child misses 5 minutes of Golden Time. Name remains on cloud.
3 warnings Name remains on cloud. Child misses 10 minutes of Golden Time. Child is sent with time out card and timer for 5 mins time out in partner class. Teacher informs parent verbally at end of the day.
4 warnings Child is sent to HT for timeout with 4 warnings card. Head or class teacher informs parent verbally either by phone as soon as child has been spoken to or at the end of the school day.
5 warnings Child is sent again to HT. Parent is contacted and formal appointment made to discuss behaviour.
  • Warnings will be balanced by positive rewards.
  • Children will be rewarded as appropriate through use of rewards such as gold book, best work, red letter days and star of the day. A comprehensive list of these rewards is included in our “Achievements, Awards and Celebrations booklet” which is made available to families upon their entry into school.
  • Half of golden time taken can be earned back at any point if the child makes the right choice corresponding to their earlier wrong choice, e.g.: If child has hit but then works hard to be a really good friend – half their time earned back. If there is a serious offence, it will automatically break more than one rule which will equal more than one warning.
  • Each class to have a designated time out space – a chair or cushion.
  • All warnings given will be recorded by writing the number of the rule broken on the weekly behaviour sheet. Warnings given at playtime and lunchtime will also be marked with a P or L.
  • Children causing repeated or serious concern will be discussed with the Learning Support Leader and Headteacher and where appropriate external agencies such as the School Nurse. Additional interventions will be put into place for these children.
  • In extreme cases, exclusion will be considered for children gaining 5 warnings on a daily basis repeatedly or for a serious offence, such as physical assault to an adult or child.
  • Behaviour is monitored weekly by the Headteacher.
Monitoring, Evaluation and Review

The school will review this policy annually and assess its implementation and effectiveness. The policy will be promoted and implemented throughout the school.
